Help Us Build a Kitchen for our Youth

The Cooreville Community Centre in Jamaica is a safe place for young people and their families to gather for social support and activities. The centre is surrounded by several communities, including Riverton City – a low-income neighbourhood that is high risk for youth.
Every week, young people attend activities at the community centre, some leaving with the possibility of not having a meal awaiting them at home. It is important for the children to have nutritiounal food available to them when they attend activities at the centre. However, it does not have a kitchen.
BreakingNew has launched this campaign to assist Cooreville Community Centre in building a kitchen to support youth programs, providing a warm meal to help with healthy development for our youth. We want to ensure that everyone who attends a program or uses the soccer field can also enjoy something to eat before going home.
The cost to build a kitchen and install appliances was initially quoted at approximately $20,000 Canadian. With the generous donations monetary and otherwise we have installed cabinets, countertops, and sink. We are now targeting appliances - fridge, stove, and fan. The reviewed cost is $6000 (including monetary contributions already made towards the cabinets). All money donated will go directly to this project.
With your generous donations, we hoped to complete this kitchen by the end of July 2019 - we are still working on it. We thank you for your consideration and potential assistance.
