Pet Boarding for Domestic Violence Victims & Elderly Rehab
Donation protected
Help Domestic Violence Victims & Elderly in Medina, Cuyahoga, Lorain, & Wayne counties (NE Ohio) undergoing short-term rehab to keep their pets from being surrendered to shelters.
Many of those suffering domestic violence are afraid to leave their pets with their abuser and therefore stay to protect them. Also, elderly who suffer short-term hospitalization & rehab are often unable to keep their pets but can care for them once recovered. We want to make sure they can keep their pets while transitioning.
I'm Alida Scheiderer, owner of Heaventree Creek Labradors, LTD & Heaventree Doggie Daycations, LTD. We've recently added dog boarding & are 90 percent done with total project costing over $150K (all self funded). My goal is to offer a separate bay to board up to 3-5 pets at a time for those experiencing Domestic Violence and/or elderly who have to enter short-term rehab on a sliding fee scale & free to those unable to pay. We are planning to house their pets up to 3 months while they transition to a new place. This helps keep pets out of shelters. In addition, their pets will enjoy daily Rover Romps at our outdoor playground, where appropriate, and splash pad during summer months. To make this happen, we need to revamp a few kennel spaces, add in a sidewalk to boarding area, complete putting fabric & gates on poles (poles already set & we have all materials to complete except for the gates), connect wiring to main (all wiring is in & have outlets / fans, etc), connect existing kennel sewer to main, relocate mini split heat / cool to new area, and sewer access to add public restroom for customers / people, which will also double for dog baths after Rover Romp play. Additional funds will cover food for these pets at no cost, hiring an employee, commercial electric service, & any costs associated with setting up a Not for Profit and / or 503(c) charity within 2 years from date of project completion.
Total cost to complete first round of projects: $75,000.
We will complete projects by priority as funds come in.
The Domestic Violence/ Elderly Pet care will eventually be a Not-for-Profit (or charity) but for 1st 1-2 years it will be under Heaventree Doggie Daycations, LTD, a for-profit entity due to we will be doing regular boarding as well to aid in additional funding and/ or expansion.
Every dollar counts & helps us reach our goal to support our community & community pets!
