Cyrus’ story from the Di Nunzio family:
On Thursday, April 14, our sweet little Cyrus was admitted to the ER with severe, unexplained leg pain. After several blood tests and consultation with a team of doctors, he was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). With the coordination of an incredible team of doctors, nurses, and support staff, an aggressive treatment plan was put together and started as soon as possible. Cyrus began his chemotherapy regimen on Monday, April 18. Praise God, he is already experiencing relief from his leg pain, and we already see positive changes in his lab results.
Cyrus will be in the hospital until at least Monday, April 25. If all goes well in the initial week of treatment, he will be discharged to continue his therapy at home and through outpatient procedures. The entire treatment plan will take about 2.5 years to complete, with the first six months being the most difficult. He will not be able to go back to school and will have to stay isolated for most of those six months. Leukemia is a volatile disease, so nothing is for sure - there will be bad days, good days, unexpected ER visits, and hospital stays.
