My name is Cynthia King and I am the Artistic Director of Cynthia King Dance Studio. CKDS has been a vital part of Brooklyn’s rich dance culture for two decades, consistently presenting relevant and thought-provoking work. We believe that dancers excel in a structured environment, in which hard work and dedication are valued. We encourage artistic expression through improvisation, abstraction, and arts activism with a focus on social, environmental, and food justice causes.

Our dance company of children and adults perform for local and international communities - including city parks, schools, theaters, and even mountain villages in Costa Rica! 

We have endured the pandemic shutdown, the tragic loss of loved ones, the omicron wave, and ever-changing rules and guidelines. Like so many other small businesses and arts organizations we also suffered the actions of a landlord desperate for higher rent who applied pressures we could no longer endure.

We had hoped that we’d find a solution and not lose our space. Unfortunately, we have to leave the studio we designed, built, and called home for the past 9 years. Not only is this heartbreaking but is a huge financial loss.

We are so grateful to Flatbush Jewish Center for providing a temporary home to prevent any interruption in our training and artistic mission. (FJC a progressive and welcoming place...the president of their board, Heather Miller, is a black woman, a mother, a school principal, and a former CKDS dancer!!!!)
