On Monday, August 23rd, 2021, Cynthia Jean Breslin passed away at 65 years of age, surrounded by loved ones in the home of her closest friend, following a year-long battle with cancer. Better known as Cindy, Mama Breslin, or Mother Blasé she was a powerful and well-known Matriarch and businesswoman in Sarasota, Florida, the place she called home for over 50 years.
Cindy was a well-recognized and prolific artist, a remarkable cook, and a woman of incredible wit, love, compassion, and energy. Her legacy is best captured by her restaurant– the Blasé Café and Martini Bar –a Siesta Key Village staple for over 24 years.
Following her passing, several people have expressed wanting to donate to help cover the end-of-life expenses following Cindy's passing. While we want to be clear that we are not requesting donations, we are willing to receive them - and gratefully so. The goal set by this fundraiser is just to outline the estimated cost of end-of-life expenses. Our family is immeasurably humbled and grateful for the rallying of support from our community. We know Cindy would be deeply moved by the outpouring of support following her passing, and would be so, so grateful for the love and graciousness you all have shown us in this time.
All donated funds will be going towards covering the cost of cremation, celebration of life event expenses, outstanding medical bills, and a memorial bench. We have chosen to memorialize Cindy with a bench under a tree at the Sarasota Memorial Park, and intend to purchase a plaque to go on the canopy tower at Myakka State Park in addition.
Any remaining funds would be donated to organizations and charities which represent Cindy's spirit: the Women's Resource Center and the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for loving her as fiercely as we do. <3
