Cyndi Strong

Donation protected

**I wanted to thank everyone so far for donating to the other fundraisers I have put together. We were able to raise about $6500, which paid for 2 months of a furnished apartment near the hospital.  This was from May 13th- July 13th. After multiple hotel stays and continuous searching for a reasonable, safe, short-term apartment, we are finally settled in an apartment in Rochester. With my mom and I each still owning our own homes in Wisconsin and Illinois, paying for a 3rd home can be challenging, but this is what must be done.

It is with unexpected news that Cyndi, my mom, has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia at the end of March, 2020. After over 12 weeks of being sick, and multiple tests, multiple hospitals have confirmed the diagnoses. With a 2 week prognosis at the time of diagnosis, our family brought her up to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, especially because other hospitals do not treat her specific diagnosis. Mayo is also ranked #1 in the nation.

Honestly, we thought this process would have been close to being completed by now, but this is just the beginning.  We live about 4 hours away, and with constant blood, potassium, and platelet transfusions, Cyndi is not healthy enough to live in her current home. As it turns out, her treatment and recovery plan is going to take longer than we anticipated. As of Saturday, July 25th, we signed a lease for an unfurnished apartment, and brought most of her belongings from home. We want her to feel as close to home as we can during this time.

Health update.....in order to cure or treat AML, Cyndi will need a Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplant. This is a high- risk procedure,  however , with success she can live the rest of her life!  After looking at over 25 million donors from all over the world, it looks like me, her daughter is a potential for being the closest match.

I have given a few rounds of blood, and will be waiting for the final results. When my mom's cancer is in remission, she can start the transplant process.  Her last bone marrow biopsy confirmed 5% cancer blasts, which was a decrease from 22%, so things are improving, thanks to Mayo Clinic. After 2 rounds of intense, experimental chemotherapy, we are waiting for her to be healthy enough to do another biopsy to test the cancer again.

Any donation is greatly appreciated and will go directly to rent, utilities, and the monthly medical bills she is already receiving.  A bone marrow transplant can range from $350,000 to $800,000, but right now we are focusing on being able to pay the rent while we are up here. Every day is a blessing, and we will continue to update you throughout this crazy journey.

I am staying positive and hopeful that I will be able to donate for my mom!!!!!

With Love,

Elyse (daughter), Tj, (son), Greg ( husband)
