Help Me Dance Again: My Journey Back from a Stroke at 16

Donation protected
Hi I'm Danielle.

I started training to be a dancer at Laura Bruce Dance Academy Bromley when I was 6 years old and performing has always been my whole world. I had just finished my GCSE's and was lucky enough to gain a coveted place at Base Performing Arts College in London, training to become a professional dancer, singer and actor. I finally felt like I was living my dream.

Then everything changed.

After a week of severe headaches, I was diagnosed with a brain tumour and needed surgery. What was meant to be low risk went terribly wrong. During the operation three blood vessels were cut and I suffered a stroke and woke up unable to move the entire left side of my body.

Instead of being back at college, I spent 10 weeks in hospital relearning how to sit up, stand, use my arm and take my first steps again. It was scary, frustrating and heartbreaking - going from dancing every day to needing help just to move.

I've now been discharged from hospital but to fully recover, I need intensive physiotherapy every day - more than the NHS can provide. I'm determined to dance again, but I need financial support to help fund private rehab and specialist equipment to give me the best possible chance of getting back on stage.

I've set up this GoFundMe as a plea to my community or to anyone following my journey or who has been through the same thing. Any donation, no matter how small, brings me one step closer to dancing again.

Thank you for helping me fight for my dream.
