On 10 February 2026, Cyclone Gezani struck the city of Toamasina on Madagascar’s east coast with exceptional intensity.
Entire neighbourhoods were devastated. Homes were destroyed, roofs torn away, power lines collapsed and major infrastructure severely damaged. Thousands of families are now without shelter, electricity or access to basic services.
This campaign is managed by Jacarandas Madagascar, a company established in Toamasina since 2006, employing over 100 people with the support of Tomad, its sustainable development partner.
While no lives were lost among our teams, the human impact has been severe, 80% of permanent employees have lost their homes. Many families are currently living in temporary conditions as recovery efforts begin.
Beyond our teams, the wider city and surrounding rural areas have been deeply affected. Local communities, small producers and farming families now face the challenge of rebuilding with limited resources.
In response, we are launching this emergency solidarity fund to support families and communities most affected by the cyclone.
The funds collected will be used for:
- Essential building materials
- Immediate reconstruction support
- Basic household recovery needs
- Targeted assistance to the most vulnerable families
To give a concrete example:
- 1 metal roofing sheet currently costs approximately 10,000 Ariary (around €2) per square metre.
- An average home requires 15 to 20 sheets to restore basic roofing protection.
- A donation of €30–40 can therefore directly contribute to rebuilding a family’s roof — helping them regain safe shelter and protect what remains of their home.
Jacarandas, in coordination with Tomad, will manage the procurement and allocation of essential materials and services to affected employees, their families, and producers, ensuring full transparency and accountability. Regular updates will be provided on the use and distribution of contributions.
Recovery will take time. But together, we can help families rebuild safely and restore stability within the community.
Every contribution makes a difference.
