Cycling North for Cancer Relief

Hey, I'm Karin and I got diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. A year has passed now after my three surgeries - and I am

just so incredibly thankful to be able to do so many things again that I love doing. I am on a sabbatical right now, to deeply feel alive again, and create more awesome memories. But I don’t want to do that just for me, I want to help selected organizations who helped me or helped friends with cancer.

On May 20th I left Berlin, direction North, cycling to raise funds for three cancer-related organisations. If I manage to hit 1800 EUR I promise I will also cycle 1800km this summer :)

I will distribute the funds equally between the following organizations:

1. https://lobularbreastcancer.org/

This is a patient advocacy group raising awareness and funding research for lobular breast cancer (LBC). LBCis a specific type of breast cancer that affects 10-15% of all BC patients and is harder to detect as it does not form lumps. It's under-researched, and I want to contribute to making a change.

This organisation is important to me as this is the type of BC I got diagnosed with.

2. https://www.dasbuusenkollektiv.de/

A German BC group for women and their supporting network. They are young, wild, and rethink how to raise awareness and talk about BC in new ways. They are open to women with breast cancer, women with genetic predispositions, and their close friends and family.

This organisation is important to me as I am part of their network. They take the shame away from the diagnosis, life as a BC patient and our scars. Being young with such a diagnosis is quite some beast.

A hospice for children with cancer (and other chronic diseases) near Berlin.

This organisation is important to me as a family of a lovely friend of mine was incredibly well taken care of here. Their son got diagnosed with brain cancer at a very young age and the team was so wonderful in supporting them until his last day.
