Cycling for Social Equality
(Social Equality Pledge)
Our values of inclusion and diversity are being tested, and it’s time for all of us to show that we will stand together.
I will ride across the country from Los Angeles to Washinton D.C. encouraging people to sign a pledge for social equality, which will be available on a website soon. The pledge will be based on these five principles:
1. All people are created equal and deserve equal respect
2. We reject racism and hate speech
3. Everyone deserves an equal chance at life, love, and employment
4. All people deserve the right to be heard, especially the marginalized and disenfranchised
5. We stand up for others because injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere
We cannot allow these principles to be thrown aside, because they are what make this country great. I have a goal to obtain at least 5 million pledges.
I will travel through the Southwest, The South, Appalachia, and The Rust Belt on my way to D.C. I’ll interact with and listen to people in other states. I’ll speak with church groups, at schools, and at other local organizations. I hope to listen to the people I meet and document my experiences, allowing their voices to be heard. I hope to understand what is really going on, but most of all: prove that there are more good people than bad.
I will need the money for food, repairs, and lodging from time to time (I plan on camping most nights). I would also use the money toward essential gear, such as a waterproof jacket and a solar panel to charge my lights and my phone.
I’m not 100% sure what I would do with left over money after the trip is done, but the plan for now is to donate the remaining funds to college scholarship programs for high school students, especially those from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Thank you for your support, I really do appreciate your help. A donation as small as five dollars can pay for a meal on my trip.
