As part of our OPAL project to improve playtimes across our school, we are aiming to build a giant sandpit for all the children to use.
What are we going to do?
In order to raise the money for the sand for our sandpit, the staff team are going to complete a non-stop 24-hour cycle and we hope you will sponsor us!
Between 9:30am on Thursday 19th May and 9:30am on Friday 20th May, Hernhill staff will cycle non-stop. Staff will share the cycling during the Thursday with Mrs Thompson, Mr Sharp and Mrs Alexander taking on the gruelling night shift between them. We will live stream the cycling overnight on our school youtube page so you can see how we are getting on! www.youtube.com/HernhillCEPrimarySchool.
Why are we doing this?
In September 2021, we embarked on an exciting play project for all of our children. Working with staff, governors, children and our families, we have one simple aim - amazing playtimes for every child every day.
OPAL is an award-winning, mentor supported programme that is supporting us to improve the quality of our play opportunities. As part of this, we are developing our grounds. Our community have been amazing in helping us source loose parts for playtimes such as tyres, den building equipment, cable reels, pipes and dressing up clothes to name just a few.
Now we would like to continue to develop the grounds and one of the things that all the children have asked for is a sandpit. This would be a giant sandpit for all the classes to use.
- We have the space...
- We have the tyres to build the sandpit walls...
- We have the workforce lined up...
We now just need the sand!
Please can you help us by pledging what you can so we can buy the sand.
