Cycling for Education in Rio de Janeiro

Hello everyone,

In April 2023, I will cycle solo from Lima (Peru) to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) to raise funds for the NGO Solar Meninos de Luz, a Brazilian organisation that promotes integral education in the favelas of Cantagalo, Rio de Janeiro.

The objective of the fundraising campaign :

1 km cycled = 1€ raised for the children of Solar Meninos de Luz

What is Solar Meninos de Luz ?

Solar Meninos de Luz (Link) is a socio-educational project that offers education to 430 children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability in the communities of Cantagalo, the south zone of Rio de Janeiro. People are enrolled at the age of 3 months and they continue until they complete secondary school. The school is open 10 hours every day, serving 3 meals a day and offering over 30 workshops.

Why did I choose to raise funds for Solar Meninos de Luz?

In 2019 I did an exchange program at the PUC University in Rio de Janeiro. During this 6 months experience I lived in the favela of Cantagalo - where Solar Meninos de Luz is located - and witnessed the poor living conditions of this community. As I am now cycling from Lima to Rio de Janeiro, it makes a lot of sense for me to help the community where I lived for 6 months.

Where will your money go ?

100% of the money raised through this ultracycling adventure will be donated to Solar Meninos de Luz to foster the education of children in the community of Cantagalo, Rio de Janeiro.

It costs 35€ per month and 420€ per year for 1 child to have access to education. By reaching our goal of 5,000€ we will support the education of 11 children during one year.
