Hey hey!
I’m Giacomo, currently cycling from Cape Town all the way to Italy – a human-powered journey across Africa. This ride is not just about adventure: I want to bring real, concrete change to the communities I meet along the way.
One of the greatest challenges these communities face is access to clean drinking water. Clean water is a basic human right, yet 1 in 4 people worldwide still don’t have access to it. In West Africa, many families depend on unsafe sources, putting their health at constant risk.
Together with Emily Hulbert and the Water Cycle Project, and with support from Sawyer International, I am working to change this reality by distributing Sawyer Point One filters – simple, portable systems that turn contaminated water into safe drinking water.
Thanks to the NGO Amor Europe and your support, 50 filters have been shipped to Ghana, and from there I will personally carry them by bicycle for 3500 km across West Africa to the Gambia. In the Gambia I will collaborate with a local NGO to distribute the filters, taking part in the training of families, showing them how to properly use and maintain the filters so they remain effective in the long run.
Important update 23/12/25: Thanks to a new collaboration with Bucket Ministry, we can now also reach more families in Accra, Tamale, and near Freetown, Sierra Leone. I’ll be actively involved in these distributions, while Bucket Ministry ensures follow-up and proper usage on the long run. This partnership removes previous logistical limits(there is no limit to the number of filters we can donate!) allowing the project to grow and reach more communities effectively.
We need to raise the funds by January 21st to ensure the filters are ready for the distributions when I arrive in Accra, Ghana. Your donation will help us reach families as quickly as possible and make a real, tangible difference.
Subsequent distributions in Tamale, and Freetown will follow as the project progresses.

- Daily output: 1,360 liters using gravity

I will personally document the entire journey – from receiving the filters, to transporting them by bike, to delivering them to the communities, and finally showing how they are being used. Mi chiamo Giacomo e sto pedalando da Cape Town fino in Italia, attraversando tutto il continente africano. Questo viaggio non è soltanto un’avventura personale: è la continuazione di un progetto iniziato dalla mia amica Emily Hulbert, chiamato Water Cycle Project.
Emily ha già raccolto fondi e consegnato filtri Sawyer in Asia, collaborando con ONG locali per portare acqua potabile a centinaia di famiglie. Adesso tocca a me raccogliere il testimone e portare avanti la stessa missione in Africa Occidentale, dove l’accesso all’acqua sicura è ancora una sfida quotidiana.
Aggiornamento importante 23/12/25: grazie a una nuova collaborazione con Bucket Ministry, ora possiamo raggiungere anche più famiglie ad Accra, Tamale e nei dintorni di Freetown, Sierra Leone. Sarò attivamente coinvolto in queste distribuzioni, mentre Bucket Ministry garantisce il follow-up e l’uso corretto dei filtri sul lungo termine. Questa partnership elimina i limiti logistici precedenti (non c’è più un limite al numero di filtri che possiamo donare!), permettendo al progetto di crescere e raggiungere più comunità.
Dobbiamo raccogliere i fondi entro il 21 gennaio per garantire che i filtri siano pronti per le distribuzioni quando arriverò ad Accra, Ghana. La tua donazione ci aiuterà a raggiungere le famiglie il più presto possibile e a fare una vera e concreta differenza.
