Cycle to Uganda

Back in 2015, pupils and teachers at St Julian's Primary School set up a link with Busiu Primary School in Mbale, Uganda. Since then, staff from both schools have visit each school and pupils have exchanged letters. Over the years, St Julian's Primary has raised money to purchase musical instruments, educational equipment and we even raised enough money to install electricity in the school - which was really special as not many schools in Mbale have electricity.

This year, we're taking teachers from across Newport to visit Uganda to help them develop their own links and Mrs Hard, Mrs Meakin, Miss Marshall and Mr Mansfield are heading back to Busiu. Whilst there, they will teach children and share expertise with the Ugandan teachers, as well exchanging letters from our pupils. We'd love to buy Busiu Primary some sports equipment and also give them an iPad and a Projector to use with their electricity.

We've worked out that its just over 6000 miles to Uganda and we want to try to cycle that distance to raise money for the equipment. During June, children and staff will be cycling on exercise bikes and push bikes to try to cycle 6000 miles!
