Cycle for Life – Glasgow to Edinburgh
In September 2024, my brother-in-law Paul McGowan received the devastating news that he had Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer, which had already spread to his lymph nodes and liver. At just 43 years old, Paul, his wife Sharon, and their two young children were hit with a reality no family should ever have to face.
Paul is one of the strongest, most positive people I know. Despite the brutal treatment he’s undergoing—including chemotherapy and radiotherapy—he keeps going with a smile on his face. He’s not just fighting this disease; he’s living his life as fully as he can.
Why I’m Raising Funds
Alongside his NHS treatment, Paul is receiving Mistletoe Therapy at Camphill Medical Practice in Aberdeen, a charity-run clinic that provides complementary treatments for cancer patients. Mistletoe Therapy is widely used in Europe and has shown incredible results, but it’s not available on the NHS.
Camphill Medical Practice has been instrumental in assisting with Paul’s treatment, providing expert care and support to help him through this battle. I want to give back to this incredible charity, ensuring they can continue offering their vital services to Paul and other families facing similar challenges.
The Challenge
To do my part, I’ll be cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh on May 17, 2025—a challenge that, for me, is no small feat. I’m not much of a cyclist, and this will push me well outside my comfort zone.
I’ll be training between now and the big day, so if you see me struggling up a hill, feel free to give me a wave… or better yet, a push!
How You Can Help
If you’d like to support Paul and his family, please consider donating. Every penny raised will go towards Camphill Medical Practice, helping them continue providing life-changing treatment.
You can also help by sharing this page—the more people who see it, the more we can raise.
I have attached a link to Paul’s GoFundMe page if you wish to read all about his journey and donate directly to his page too:
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support. It means the world to Paul and his family!
