We are devastated to announce that Kelvin passed away on 6th June 2025. Kelvin was unbelievably brave in his fight against bowel cancer which was diagnosed too late to cure. This GoFundMe site was originally set up to raise money to help him through his treatment. It made a big difference to him and we know how much he appreciated everyone's efforts. It seems fitting to leave the page here and continue to use it as a way to support his family and the two beautiful young children that he has left behind. Please do donate and anything raised here will go straight to that cause.
In June 2024 we wrote "We are finally ready to take on the two day, 165 mile Cycle Challenge for our friend and Roffey FC football team mate, Kelvin Lucas, who is putting up an amazing and very determined fight against bowel and liver cancer. We are raising money to support Kelvin and his young children as he undergoes this invasive and lengthy treatment.
After an extensive and exhausting training programme over the last 5 months (some of us more than others!!), a small but determined group from Roffey FC is setting out early on Thursday August 1st to visit twenty fellow SCFL football clubs around Sussex – all of which Kelvin has played against over the years, and some of them as part of their squad.
The first day will be a massive 102 miles, starting at Roffey FC, heading over Ashdown Forest to Crowborough FC and then on to Eastbourne United and Eastbourne Town, via AFC Uckfield Town before heading west along the coast taking in Seaford FC, Newhaven FC, Peacehaven & Telscombe FC, Saltdean United, Shoreham FC and ending up late evening at Steyning Town Community FC where we will collapse in a heap! Day 2, Friday 2nd August we carry on from Steyning FC to the last ten Clubs on our list, covering 63 miles via Montpelier Villa FC at Lancing, Worthing United, East Preston FC, Wick FC, Arundel FC, Storrington Community FC, Billingshurst FC, Loxwood FC, Alfold FC, Horsham YMCA and we end up back to Roffey FC with an eta of 6:00pm where we are looking forward to some cold beers and a cushion!
The “dream team” mad enough to take this on, is Chairman Phil Gibbs, 1st team Manager Jack Munday, Jack’s brother Matt Munday, one of our physios Pete Etheridge, and our cycling guru and mentor Derek Tulett. Others are threatening to join us on route and we will maintain a twitter feed as we go round. Please support us in this endeavour for Kelvin. Thank you!"
