Bill’s cancer fight

Bill was born and raised in Williams Lake. After serving 27 years in the military he chose to relocate back to Williams Lake with his wife Melody and his 11 children. Shortly after moving he welcomed his final child into the world.

Following his move back to his hometown he continued his career as a plumber for the next 17 years working for Burgess Plumbing, Heating and Electrical. Always ready and willing to stop what he’s doing or hop out of bed to help our local residents with their plumbing emergencies.

In August of this year Bill went on medical leave for degenerative disc disease. He was gearing up for a return to work in October. Unfortunately, on September 28th he started exhibiting stroke like symptoms. A trip to the Williams Lake emergency room brought a more devastating news that none of us imagined. They performed a CT and found a large mass on his brain. Bill was referred to a neurologist who came up with a plan of action. On October 26th Bill along with the support of his wife and children all went to Kamloops for neurosurgery. During surgery they Biopsied the mass. A week following the surgery the results came back and we discovered that the mass was indeed cancerous, and the most aggressive Form of brain cancer.

With a referral to BC Cancer they told him the treatment options. Bill found out that he will have to temporarily reside in Kelowna while he undergoes 4 weeks of treatment. Daily chemotherapy and daily radiation. Treatment is currently scheduled to begin on December 27th 2023. When treatment has been completed he will return home for Close monitoring, regular MRIs, and continuous oral chemotherapy.

While Bill or melody aren’t ones to ask for help, the additional costs associated with treatment in Kelowna will be significant. Any help during this challenging time will be appreciated by the entire family.
