Last October, my pastor and worship leader at church went to look into a possible ministry opportunity in Jibou, Romania, partnering with a Baptist church in the city. As they were on this trip, they were posting updates and pictures on Facebook of their time there. Though I have done several mission trips in the US, I have never had a desire to do any kind of mission trip overseas- until now. But as I looked at the faces of the people in those pictures, I felt a tug to want to meet them, to minister to them.

Well, this October, my pastor is taking a team from my church on a 10-day trip to Jibou, and I will be part of that team.

Now, to tell you about the area. Romania proclaims 95% Christian; however, less than 10% of their population actually attend church with any regularity. The primary religion is Eastern Orthodox with the remainder split between evangelical Christian, Jewish, and Muslim (which represents less than 2%). They are a former Communist country that broke with that philosophy in the early 1990's and are now part of the European Union. While there the team will helping to reach the smaller villages surrounding Jibou, as well as the gypsy population of the region who have been shunned by the church for centuries. Our outreach will include teaching, preaching, women's ministry, children's outreach, and music ministry.
