Before you can understand, I need to back up a bit and tell you their story. After raising a daughter of their own Mike & Kym decided to become foster parents for the Methodist Home. As they took young kids/babies in who's moms were in prison and fathers were nowhere to be found, they fell in love with each child. Over time, they have adopted 4 special and lucky kids. It's been a real challenge for them but they are very special people with a God given gift and they have dug deep, made sacrifices and relied on their faith to provide these kids with the best home possible. To make it even more difficult, most of the moms took drugs while pregnant, so this has created an additional challenge for these kids and their new parents.
As this new family grows, it has presented a problem of too little space in their small house. So, it was decided that they would build a second story on their existing house while they continued to live in the bottom floor. Mike has a remodeling company and has a lot of building experience so he decided that he would do most of the work to add the second story.
Things were going great and moving along perfect until last night and the unexpected storm. The goal was to have the roof on before the next rain. Unfortunately, they didn't quite make it. When I got home from work last night around 9pm, Mike was trying to put tarps up as the storms rolled in but with the wind and the height of the new structure, it was an impossible task. I don't think any of us were prepared for what was to follow. As the rain started, we all prayed that it would pass over quickly and that the floor of the second story would keep most of the water out. Kym called and ask us to bring all the towels that we had because they had some leaks. When we walked in the door, nothing could have prepared us for what was to follow. Water was pouring from the ceiling everywhere. As we started trying to place buckets and towels the ceiling stated to crash down around us as four kids screamed in fear. From this point it just got worse as the house filled with water and a ceiling fan and light fixture crashed to the ground, luckily not hitting anybody.
So, now you understand how we ended up with four kids sleeping at our house. First, I want to ask all of my friends to pray for this special family. They are trying so hard and right now things seem pretty hopeless. Second, if you are in a position to help financially, I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated. My wife and I have given what we can. (they have never ask for a penny and I'm sure they wouldn't even now but I know they could use the help.)
