Robert Evans, The Man, The Myth, The Legend. I considered him my best friend and a brother.
He was the type of person who's heart, smile, brilliance, knowledge, generosity, and compassion were unbound. The light and spirit was obvious to anyone lucky enough to meet him.
Time was meaningless when you hung out with him, you could blink and an hour of the best conversations would have passed. He was never the type of person to judge you, but he would listen and give you the greatest advice. If you ever needed anything, and he had it, he would give it to you without hesitation, and that would be the case if he just met you or he had known you for a long time. Rob would inspire everyone he met to achieve greatness, and become a better person because he was the gold standard.
Around the time of his 50th birthday, he and I managed to somehow discuss death and our eventual passing. We both quickly agreed we would hope our loved ones would celebrate our lives instead of mourn our death. While I sit here writing this, crying and smiling from the memories we've shared, I think about all we've done while hanging out in any situation, with any number of people whom I'm finding out considered Rob a best friend as well. He made you feel comfortable and special, and he was like that to anyone even if you were a total stranger.
The world has truly lost a great one, and I hope you had the opportunity to meet him and have him in your life. This loss has been incredibly devastating, matched only the brightness of his incredible soul.
While I'm uncertain of the costs, anything that can be given will go to Rob's mom Shelley Sanders for any expenses of the sudden loss of our beloved Rob.
And for those of you who had the opportunity to have met Rob, I hope we will get a chance to share our memories, as we reminisce with both old and new friends, made through knowing him. I know it doesn't replace Rob. Nothing ever will. But it might just feel like he is right there with us when we do.
Rob, any number of years of knowing you was not nearly enough my friend. We will see you on the other side some day. Until then, say hello to your brother in heaven for us.
