Matthew’s recovery
Donation protected
Hello everyone, alot of people are worried about Matthew after he and 4 others were involved in a serious car crash in Isanti on Thursday 07/12, and I wanted to both help him during this difficult time and have a spot where people can get updated on how he is doing. He is going through a rough time after the accident and will have a long recovery, but we are very grateful he is alive, as it could have been much worse. He was in the back seat of the truck when the accident happened, but still suffered a number of injuries. He nose is broken, his face/head took a lot of damage with deep gouges and lacerations, and he has two spinal fractures, one (his T8) being a rather unstable burst fracture where it’s splintered into a number of fragments. We are grateful for the fact that he was very lucky to keep his eye by 1/10th of an inch, and that although his spine is pretty busted up it did not infringe upon his spinal cord, so he has retained neurological function up til this point. He still isn’t out of the woods and it’s going to be a long recovery, but we are hoping to avoid surgery and for those fragments to heal/fuse back together in place over the next 3 months of being in both a back and neck brace FT. Surgery may still be needed if any of those fragments shift, they fail to fuse together/heal, or the surrounding vertebrae start to shift more in alignment due to lack of spinal support. If that happens he will need spine surgery to fuse things together with pins and rods. Me and my son Mason decided to start a go fund me to help with some of the bills as he will have a long recovery, a lot of medical bills, and won’t be able to work for quite some time. Thanks everyone for the support that’s out there for Matthew in this time of recovery, let’s get him the help he needs.
