Hope for Hailey

Hailey Rose was born on May 25th, 2020, at 3:34 pm. The day her parents, Mary and Andy, had been waiting for had arrived! Mary was just about 4.5 hours shy of being in labor for 24 hours, when Hailey finally made her appearance! But something was off; her daddy immediately knew something wasn't right - she wasn't crying and she was blue. Hailey was immediately taken from her parents, and had 13 doctors working on her before she was airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio. Mary only briefly got to see her baby girl before she was taken away to be worked on. The absolute terror that was coursing through her is unimaginable. She waited 9 long months to see her baby..to hold her..only to have her taken away without even knowing what exactly was happening. An absolute nightmare for any parents, especially first time parents.

Little Hailey suffered from hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) during birth (which affects approximately 3 out of every 1000 births). This means that she did not have enough blood or oxygen flowing to her brain when she was born and had to be resuscitated. They considered Hailey a severe case, and because of this event at birth she suffered damage to her brain. Hailey went through a 72-Hour cooling phase to minimize and heal any brain damage. Her Apgar scores were 1-1-1 and her MRI on day 7 was extremely disheartening. She spent 73 days in the NICU. Mary and Andy were there every single day, anywhere from 10 to 12 hours, spending time with their baby girl..singing to her, talking to her, praying over her, reading to her..everything first time parents do with their newborn, except they were bound to the constraints of a hospital room.

While in the NICU Hailey had a surgery to put in a Gtube because she aspirated into her lungs, which caused pneumonia. To this day Hailey is 100% fed by her Gtube. The doctors and nurses did not believe Hailey would come home without oxygen but she did! However she is back on oxygen at night, due to her O2 levels dipping too low. Hailey is in several therapies including Occupational therapy, physical therapy and Speech Therapy 3x a week and is also being evaluated for vision therapy.

God has been working miracles in their lives and Hailey has been their little flower blossoming in her own time. They are looking into alternative healing practices for Hailey, and are blessed to able to do an intensive with Dr. Crawford at the Austin Center for Developing Minds. They are also looking into doing HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy) with Dr. Harch in New Orleans, as well as a feeding intensive to help wean her off of her Gtube.

As you can imagine, it was devastating to have a normal, textbook pregnancy, only to have the unthinkable happen during delivery. Waiting 9 long months to hold her baby girl, only to experience such a traumatic birth and not even be able to hold her sweet baby until day 5 of life. It was the most terrifying-traumatic experience of their lives; not to mention having a baby during a global pandemic, when things are shut down and family isn't allowed to visit the hospital. To say it was a traumatic experience really doesn't do it justice. To try and plan or even think of how they will come up with the money to pay for all of Hailey's needed therapy is very overwhelming, but they want to give Hailey the best chance so she will thrive in life! They are her biggest cheerleaders and influence and I know they will overcome each obstacle and teach her all about their faith during this time and the God we serve! We know that God must have an amazing plan for Hailey's life because He is working so many miracles in their lives, but Andy and Mary still have to do the footwork and that’s getting the care and therapies that will help Hailey along this path ❤. We are humbly asking for help, whether it be through prayer or donation or sharing Hailey's story..anything and everything would bless them beyond measure. The below is a list of rough costs they have already incurred/will be incurring in the next few weeks and months as Hailey undergoes crucial therapy for her development. We thank you for blessing this family!

*Laser therapy-$3600
