Dear Esteemed Family and Friends of Jesus Emmanuel Ramos “Coach JJ”
You may know Jesus “Coach JJ”, from his many years of service as a coach of Benicia High School Wrestling and St. Pat’s Volleyball. Some know him as a father, brother, uncle, cousin, coach, army veteran, mentor or as a dear friend. He has been a devoted father to Christian and Kian and a committed uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jesus Ramos, has been giving his time to the athletic community and it’s athletes for over 15 years. He spent the better part of his years serving so many students, coaching them in wrestling, volleyball and most importantly coaching teens through life. He was not only a Coach to these students he acted as a father, a mentor and a friend, throughout the years he coached. He sacrificed his time, his family, and his financial means to support and coach students through their most important years of being adolescents. Coach JJ was the first one at practice, the last one at practice, the one who drove the kids home, the one to pick up kids who did not have rides even when they were out of his way, and the one that would stop whatever he was doing to save a kid from trouble. He spent hours of his life away from his own family to travel with the athletes and would stay up late to make sure his wrestlers “made weight”. He was the strong disciplinarian when it was needed and would serve as a support to families needing help with their troubled teen.
Coach JJ was a coach in the sports of Wrestling and Volleyball, training our kids to reach beyond their potential, to aspire for greatness and value their loved ones and team. At first, many would say they were intimidated by Coach JJ’s bold style but it was short lived. He was the coach that the athletes/our children reached out to for, the shoulder they cried on and someone that they could talk to. He was the disciplinarian they needed and a hero to his athletes. He has been a respected man to so many parents and families who are forever grateful to “Coach” for helping their children not only become great athletes but most importantly be great people. He has taken his teams and his wrestlers to countless championships, state qualifiers and placers throughout his coaching career. This giving coach showed his athletes that nothing gets done without hard work and determination. He also showed them how hard they could push themselves mentally and physically, even when they wanted to quit. His teams wanted to make him proud and wanted to reach all the expectations he had set for them. Coach JJ instilled the value of hard work, grit, self discipline, determination, resilience and brotherhood with a lot of tough love as we call it. All important life skills that the kids will forever carry with them through life. The impact that he has made to our children’s lives will forever impact their futures and their hearts.
Unfortunately, Coach JJ was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer last October. Since his diagnosis he has fought this battle with the same determination and grit he taught his athletes. Sadly, he has been placed in Hospice in his home where his adored sons Christian and Kian Ramos will care for him during his remaining days.
Coach JJ is a proud, humble, spiritual forty eight year old man that was not financially prepared for this untimely battle and diagnosis. He is a devout Catholic and his only request is for a proper Catholic funeral.
We have started this GoFundMe to help his young adult sons cover the cost of funeral expenses. His family was not prepared for the high cost of a funeral, and during this difficult time we are reaching out to the community of families that Coach JJ has touched for help. Coach JJ or his family are not ones to ever ask for assistance, however given the astounding cost of a funeral and burial we know that he and his boys would be forever grateful for your support. It is our hope that with this financial assistance we can lessen the financial stress they are now burdened by. We would like to help support them during this time to solely focus on his care and grieve for this incredible man.
Jesus Ramos deeply valued the work he did with Benicia High School Wrestling and St Pat’s Volleyball, he will forever be missed in the athletic community by all who knew him.
