Donation protected
(check out our video at the bottom)
Hi everybody! We are Dan Haller, Zach Schnitzer and Fiona Walsh Calton, founding members of A World Elsewhere ensemble. All three of us will be graduating with our BFAs in Acting from The Theatre School at DePaul University this spring. We are thrilled to be producing our first play as an ensemble this summer. Coriolanus will be directed by Zach and adapted by the three of us. The play will be performed in Chicago this July.
Coriolanus is a tragedy by William Shakespeare written between 1605 and 1608. The play follows a young, fast-rising general named Caius Martius, who earns the title of Coriolanus by winning a military victory for Rome. Unfortunately, he is completely unable to coexist with the citizens of Rome that he's sworn to protect, and ends the play banished from Rome, surrounded by enemies.
Coriolanus is an intensely political, controversial play. Since it was written, people have tried to project a political message onto this play. Politicians have even used elements of this play to support everything from brutal fascist rule to marxist reforms. We believe this play presents a deeply human story that defies political definition. It offers us a timeless landscape to investigate questions like: What does it mean to leave someone with an irreversible change? What happens to a society when they get the embodiment of all the values that they claim to believe in?
The goal for our budget is to reach $2000.
We are seeking these donations to cover:
The rental of the theater space ($1400)
Marketing materials ($150+)
Set/costume/props ($300+)
Snacks and food for cast/crew ($150+)
Anything that you can give would be greatly appreciated, no matter how large or small. If you can't donate, feel free to share with friends/family!
This play is a big step for us at A World Elsewhere and we are incredibly lucky to be able to do it. With your help, we’ll be able to tackle this production with all the resources we desire. Thank you so much!
