Recovery from Ida

Hello everyone. If you saw the picture I posted on Instagram, you saw that my basement flooded. We had record rain fall in a matter of hours which caused severe flooding and sewage back up. While I share my love for horror on a daily basis, I don’t discuss certain aspects of my life. With what’s transpired over the passed few days, I need to put this out there. I have a family. A wife and two small children. My home does not have an attic so my storage has always been my basement. We would bin our clothes by season. As of right now, we’ve lost the majority of our winter clothes. As it’s September and school is starting, all my kids school supplies were in the basement and are now gone. Different machines for my kitchen like hand mixer, blender, small deep fryer, foreman grill, kitchen aid and several attachments all gone. Flood water is one thing but I cannot consciously attempt to clean certain things that had sewage all over them and then just move on and cook with them. Tons of toys, pull-ups, and children’s books the list goes on and on. Besides those types of items, we also lost our water heater, boiler, washer, dryer and chest freezer which we always kept about 50-60% full. But my wife likes to keep it filled for winter and the day before she put the last possible item that would fit in it fully stocking it to the brim for winter. All of that food I am going to lose. Also at the bottom of my stairs I have some pantry shelves with dry foods, paper plates, napkins…all gone. Hell I even lost my sneakers. As of right now I do not have a pair of shoes! Just a pair of crocs. Even lost my work clothes (button down shirts, polos etc). Obviously with all of that there’s also my actual basement which was has wood paneling covering the walls a floating floor and the heat. Safe to say, the basement needs to be completely gutted. Insurance, which we are still waiting to hear from as countless families have also been affected, they only cover so much. I literally have no idea what I am going to do to replace things. My kids aren’t even sleeping here because it’s smelling up the house and all our bedrooms. My wife is beginning to not feel so well too. It may come to selling my collection but while you know I do sell things here and there, all my boxes and shipping supplies are gone. So I couldn’t sell anything right now if I wanted to as I need to buy everything. My goal right now is my family. Food, new school supplies, clothes, a pair of sneakers for myself, new work clothes etc. If anyone has a spare couple dollars to help, it would mean the world to my family.
