His Life Story:

Veijendra left school at a young age of 7 years to help his family …he worked at a paper factory and there he learned all about producing paper. At 12 years age , One morning, Vijendra and his colleague went to a fort in Rajasthan called Amer Fort. Suddenly, Vijendra saw 40 or 50 elephants gathered close to the parking area. It was the first time Vijendra had seen such extraordinary creatures – let alone dozens of them in one place. Out of curiosity, he observed the elephants making their way up the hill to Amer Fort. He was so engrossed in his thoughts, little did he know that one of the elephants was about to poop right on his head! Luckily, his colleague pulled him away just in time, as the elephant dung weighed 2.5 or 3 kilograms and fell from a height of almost 2 metres. But what was most interesting to Vijendra was the texture of the elephant dung: it seemed to be made up of fibres, just like those he used for pulp to create his handmade paper.

It was this experience that inspired Vijendra to use dung to make paper pulp. It wasn’t easy: he made several attempts and it didn’t happen overnight. But eventually, after a few months, he found the technique needed to produce paper.

He built an own machine with the help of his family and so he had started at 17 years his own paper-making unit in their own house.  All their money was invested in this unit and now he had to find his first customer…he only had money for a one-way trip to Delhi, but Veijendra was determined to find his first customer. After many rejections he met a lady that, after using a lot of persuasion, was willing to place an order and she even bought him a ticket home. This one customer created some breathing space for Vijendra to develop his craftmanship. Since his 17th years until now at 36th years he always produced for this one lady customer, selling to retailers in India. It was a good business for his family and they all could develop their business and their village people working in his family owned printing facility.

Unfortunately his first and only customer recently stopped placing orders due to health problems .This resulted in financial problems for Vijendra and his family, but the craftsman kept believing that every problem has a solution. He tried to find market for their green venture, but without any success. Veijendra was planning to shut his paper-making unit down, but wanted to do at least one more effort for marketing. He started working with multiple travel agencies to provide tours through his venture, meals and workshops to show how the dung paper is made. See here the Elly Express venture on Tripadvisor:

He got in contact with me, co-owner of Interall Group, a supplier producing promotional items made from sustainable materials…and we loved his entrepreneurial spirit. We placed immediately a start order of notebooks, notepads, coasters, packaging materials and more items made from elephant poo. He can continue his business for 5 months…but we want to help him!

It is great to help another entrepreneur in a survival mood… I myself know exactly how it feels, when in problems to get an unexpected help to find the strenght again to survive the business. That is why we would love to ask you to purchase some nice gifts for yourself, for friends, for relatives, for business relations. We can also personalise these gifts of course with your brand at larger quantities. But also as consumer you can help purchasing a set. Or when you are a shop/retailer,maybe interesting to sell this elephant poo items to your visitors.

*  One elephant produces 50 kg dung every day which is enought to make 1000 sheets of A4 paper or  20 journals or 150 carry bags.
* We can save 14’400 mature trees (40’tall) everyday if we could use only 10% available Elephant
dung in the world
* Only Jaipur’s (his location) elephants can save 33 mature trees every day or more than 12.000 trees every year.
* It will sove dumping problem of the elephant poo and will also stop generation of Methane gas.
Why use dung paper instead of regular paper?

* Reduced deforestation – no trees need to be cut down to produce it.
* Fewer chemicals – the production of regular paper uses many chemicals, which pollute the soil when thrown away. Dung paper is naturally produced, using no harmful chemicals
* Less water – after paper production, the water is re-used for irrigation.
* Less waste, better cleanliness – using animal waste to create something new helps keep the
elephants’ habitats clean.
