Support Mike's Fight Against Cancer

Dear Mystwood and Maine LARP Community,

Mike Booker has been a cornerstone of Maine LARP since the mid-90s, taking part in almost every LARP ran at MASI and several at Burgundar, bringing huge amounts of experience, craft and history knowledge, and costuming atmosphere to every role he has taken on. Perhaps most famously, he has played Witch Hunter and Lord Mayor Johan Amadeus Vogal at the Mystwood: Chronicles of the Keep campaign since its inception and playtest in 2011, and has been pivotal in many, many plots and storylines occurring in the Mystwood world.

Recently, Mike was diagnosed with cancer. He faces a long winter of chemotherapy and possible surgery. Mike does not have disability insurance, and the expectation is that times will be lean for himself, Angelica, and their young son Gabriel.

I can think of few communities who are stronger and more closely knit than ours. We have historically helped many players in a variety of ways over the years. I am confident that we can raise enough money for Mike to at least make the coming year a little easier for him and his family.

In addition to this fundraiser and my own personal donation, Mystwood: The Chronicles of the Keep will be donating 50% of our received event fees for the first two Events to Mike and his family.

Hello! On a personal level, Mike is one of my closest and oldest friends. His wife Angelica met Mike through me (and LARP, of course!), I was honored to be amongst his groomsmen when the two got married, and a few years later he returned the favor. Many hours of tabletop roleplaying, Guild Wars 2, and long discussions about rules, settings, 80s movies, and much older music have passed between us, and I can happily say any time spent with Mike is time well spent. If he has a flaw, it is that he enjoys deviled eggs as much as I do, though luckily this has not yet come to any fights over who gets the last one.
