Long Road to Freed-Hardeman

Donation protected
My long road to Freed began before I was even born. My father was attending Freed-Hardeman, studying to become a preacher, when he met my mother. I was the youngest of their three children. I grew up in Amory Church of Christ where I was able to grow and learn spiritually by attending retreats such as Maywood, Horizons, Rush, CYC, and Exposure. My youth minister, Derrick Marranto, also helped guide me through the hard times, also known as the teenage years.

Fast forward to 2012. I was a junior at Amory High School still not knowing what direction my life would take until one fall day. On my 17th birthday in Memphis, Tennessee, I swore an oath to God and Country and joined the Army National Guard. In the summer of 2013 I attended Basic Training. After graduating in August my family told me that during training my father had passed away. In 2014, I graduated from Amory High School and finished my initial military training.

After graduating, I had the grades and test scores to attend school, but not the funds. I decided I would need to take a year off to work and save for school. With the support of my family, I started to work full time. My mother, sister, and brother did everything they could to help, but were not in the position to help me financially.

It has now been a year and I'm still not where I need to be financially to attend Freed-Hardeman. Many people have asked why I want to attend Freed, since it does cost more than schools where I'm located. I find it hard to explain to those who have never experienced Freed-Hardeman, but to those who have, I know you can agree with me when I say that Freed is like a home away from home. Going to Horizons, Rush, Making Music, and Lectureships are experiences you never forget. You meet people and make friends that are like family. Staying in the dorms, having $1 pizza nights, Brad Montague and Jerry Elder, swim time in Bader Gym (when Bader was there), the Horizons singers, classes in Loyd Auditorium, and hanging out below Gano are all memories that I have.
Now I'm ready to experience Freed as a student.

I have been accepted to the 2016 Spring semester at Freed, but I still need help to make my dream a reality. With your help I will be a able to attend the school that has already made a great impact on my life. With a humble heart I am asking for donations to help me fund my college education at Freed-Hardeman.
