My name is Richard Agers — most people know me on social media as "The Gentle Barber."

3 months ago, I left my corporate job and moved into my Tesla Model Y, making it into a mobile barbershop. I hit the road with my two dogs, Nala and Simba. Since I will be traveling state to state, setting up my chair outside shelters, VA hospitals, tent communities, and anywhere people are sleeping rough, offering free haircuts to veterans and anyone experiencing homelessness.

A haircut is never just a haircut out here. It’s the first time in months—or years—that someone feels seen. I’ve watched grown men cry when they look in the mirror and recognize themselves again. I’ve had veterans who haven’t smiled since Vietnam break down and hug me because someone finally took the time to listen while I cut their hair. Every single cut is about restoring dignity, sparking hope, and reminding people they still matter.

I don’t charge a dime for the haircuts. I never will. This is my way of paying forward the love and lessons my grandfather, James W. Leonard—a Lead Gunner Commander on the USS Orleck in Vietnam—instilled in me.

Living and working out of my Tesla keeps overhead low, but the road never stops asking for power, clipper blades, sanitizer, capes, dog food. Your support keeps the chair rolling and the clippers buzzing.
