Hi there, we are Bobby and my mother Sokha, and we are fundraising to seek support in our efforts to restore access to our home after storms destroyed the only road in and out—so we can receive life-essential water.
Right now, we are facing something we never imagined.
After powerful storms hit our area in Pāhala, Hawaiʻi, the road to our home was torn apart. What used to be a simple drive is now a stretch of deep trenches, broken asphalt, and washed-out earth. Cars can’t pass. Delivery trucks can’t get through. In many places, the road is simply gone.
And the most urgent reality:
Our water is running out.
We rely on water delivery for drinking and daily living, and within the next two weeks, we must receive a 4,300-gallon delivery. Without repairing the road quickly, the truck will not be able to reach us.
This is not just an inconvenience—it’s a crisis.
We live on a 40-acre property with 6 acres of coffee trees and other crops that help sustain us. Since Sokha’s husband passed in 2020, I moved here to take care of her, manage the land, and keep our lives stable. We are doing everything we can, but this damage is beyond what we can fix alone—especially on a fixed income of less than $2,200 per month.
In rural Big Island, repairs like this are especially costly. Equipment, materials, and skilled operators are limited and must often be brought in from far away. What might be a small job elsewhere becomes a major project here.
We are racing against time to make the road passable before our water runs out—and to rebuild it strong enough so this doesn’t happen again.
To be able to restore safe access to our home and secure our water supply, we must raise $70,000.
$25,000 for heavy equipment rental (excavator, grader, compactor) and fuel to rebuild the washed-out road
$25,000 for hiring experienced operators to reshape, level, and stabilize deep erosion damage
$20,000 for gravel, base material, and asphalt to reinforce the road and prevent future washouts
Every dollar goes directly toward restoring access to our home and ensuring we have something as basic as drinking water.
We are not asking for more than we need—we are asking for the chance to stay in our home, care for our land, and take care of each other.
Any contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a difference. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this with others could help us reach someone who can.
Thank you for helping us restore our road, our access, and our ability to simply live safely. We will post updates as we make progress.
