Curtis Buca recovery from accident and amputation

Donation protected
Help us to help Curtis' recovery after being involved in a road traffic accident whilst on his motorbike, resulting in him losing his lower right leg, breaking his pelvis, collarbone, femur, knee, ribs and left hand. We want to make his recovery the easiest possible as his whole life has been CHANGED forever and he will need to adapt for the rest of his life.

I have set this up not only to help to adapt his life but because he has now lost his career as a domiciliary carer forever. So this go fund me isn't just for him adpating to his life changing injuries but also his financial support for loss of earnings.

A little bit about Curtis... He is a 33 year old Carer from Bristol who was working 62hours a week because helping others is his passion. Alongside this he has donated 25 bags of blood, then went onto donating platelets every 2 weeks and recently recieved his 100th bag award after reaching 102 bags donated this year. During his time in intensive care last week he needed to recieve 10 bags of blood himself, which saved his life. When we told him about the transfusions, he was most upset that he now can no longer give blood or platelets himself. This says a lot about Curtis as a person and why he deserves to be helped so much. Curtis also loves to play football twice a week and one of his goals is to get on the pitch again (for us to make this happen, we will need to get him a decent prosthetic leg). Curtis is a lovable guy, very close with his family, an uncle of 2 and a brother of 5, he always puts others first and is always the guy that his friends can rely on. He lives with his girlfriend Stacey and their dog Ruby, he is devasted that he won't be able to walk Ruby for a very long time and roll around and play with her on the floor and in the garden. He loves his festivals and travelling, this hit him really hard after having to accept that these plans have to be cancelled for this year and the forseeable future. For those who understand he was supposed to be going to Tomorrowland with his girlfriend in July.. If you know, you know.

The accident.... On Monday the 22nd of May 2023 at 16:50pm Curtis was on his bike and as he was driving he was in a collision with another driver. Curtis lost his right foot at the scene on impact and was found fighting for his life. During emergency surgery they saved his life and had no choice but to amputate up to the knee. The following morning was his second surgery where they reconstructed his thigh, knee and pelvis - these were very complicated breaks and was lucky to have a skilled team of surgeons working on him, to be able to keep his right leg, we are forever grateful. His third surgery was a few days later to close his amputation, which was also a complicated surgery due to what healthy skin was left from the accident. Curtis is still in hospital and has just been moved to a ward after 9 days in intensive care. We are unaware of when he will be out of hospital at this point, but what we do know is that he has a very long and life-changing road of recovery ahead of him.

The incredible thing about Curtis is while being in a hospital bed and accepting his new life, he is already adamant that he wants to help others and his future plan is to raise money for people that need it. One thing he can't accept is not being able to help others as this is passion and what he believes his path in life is, his job and giving blood was this.

We would appreciate any support for Curtis' recovery, if anyone deserves it, we believe he does. The funds would be used to make sure he gets a prosthetic leg that won't hold him back and continue to live his lifestyle eventually, in the easiest way possible. Shortages of wheelchairs at the hospital means he currently isn't gauraunteed one, and this is an essential neccesity in his every day life, forever. Due to loss of career, we want to make his financial status as easy as possible for him, as this would be a big strain on him and effect his well being. When Curtis comes home from hospital, he wants to live as independently and normal as possible, so adaptations will need to be made for this to happen. Curtis has an aim to raise money for others in the future, so if we can help aid his recovery then we can help his dream of helping others happen.
