Dear George E. Curry supporter:
A group of colleagues of the late George E. Curry is planning a tribute to him. We would appreciate your support—including financially—of a gathering dedicated to him during the July 8-12 joint convention of the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. George supported both groups, and was NABJ’s 2003 Journalist of the Year.
Of his long list of achievements, George was most passionate about editing Emerge magazine, the premier African American news magazine. He was working on reviving the publication online before his death. The Curry volunteer committee needs your help to make it a success. Please donate what you can.
George left an impressive legacy for us to carry on. Before leading Emerge, he worked for Sports Illustrated, the St. Louis Post Dispatch and the Washington and the New York bureaus of the Chicago Tribune. He also worked as editor-in-chief for the National Newspaper Publishers Association.
Emerge, though, was his heart. This is the 20th anniversary of the magazine’s closing, and honoring George would be a great way to pay tribute to him and the work he did for all of us. Please join us and make it happen.
