Curly is a service dog for a local Veteran named Jeri. Jeri proudly served our country in the United States Army for 4 years (2 years active, 2 years reserved). Curly (5 years old) joined Jeri’s family and started training in February of 2020. Curly is more than just a loving furry friend at work and not only brings a smile to the face of those he meets, but is medically trained to alert Jeri of potential medical emergencies. Unfortunately, Curly ruptured his cruciate ligament (ligament between the femur and tibia) in his left hind leg . Sadly, Curly’s only option and only hope in order to regain his ability to walk was surgical stabilization of the knee. Surgery was recommended asap and was completed May 31st at Pacific & Santa Cruz Veterinary Specialists. The surgery performed was a Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO), which has a 95% success rate for full recovery allowing Curly to return to service. Curly is doing well recovering at home with a lot of love and support.

The surgery itself was just under $8k, however, there will be a long road ahead to include follow up with specialists for physical therapy and hydrotherapy. As well as the medication needed for a full recovery. The goal was set for $10k at this time in order to help alleviate the cost of the surgery, physical therapy, specialists, and medication needed.

Jeri is a very loving, humble and giving person and would never expect a penny from anyone. She puts her heart and dedication into helping others, but especially those that have served our country. After 2 years of active duty and 2 years reserve, she continues to serve our country and veterans as a Speech Pathologist at the local VA Clinic with Curly by her side. Although help is not expected, any help is greatly appreciated as this was unexpected and heartbreaking for their family.

100% of funds raised will help pay for the cost of surgery and then therapy as recommended. I’d love to give back to someone who gave to our Country and continues to give back to the community on a daily basis.
