Cure for Callie

Callie suffers from an eating disorder, more commonly referred to as Anorexia. She has suffered for the past 10 years and more severely in the past 6 years. This has also led to many other health complications like heart problems, bowel problems, fertility problems and many more. It has led to many hospitalisations which are not available at public hospitals only private. She also attends weekly gp visits as well as psychology, dietitian and psychiatry appointments. These cost on average approximately $200 per visit. On top of this she takes medication to help with her condition and even with a health care card these cost upward of $100 each. She holds down a job on a part time basis as her mental condition does not give her the capacity to work full time. This money is used to pay rent, medical insurance and car payments. Ends somehow never meet! We are attempting to find the money to take her to specialists in Melbourne, America and Europe in the hope that somewhere out there someone knows the key to unlocking the noise in her head and the absolute agony of living with this disease. It is crippling. More people die from this disease than any other in the world today The government in Australia has cut funding to organisations like The Butterfly Foundation that deal with mental health and in the whole of Queensland there are only approx 20 beds wholly dedicated to eating disorder treatment, not too many more than that in NSW either.
