We are running the Wigan Half Marathon in support of our dads.
Tom’s dad has been diagnosed with Prion disease, and Joe’s dad has been diagnosed with MND (Motor Neurone Disease).
Prion disease is an extremely rare and fatal form of dementia, caused by misfolded proteins (called prions) that damage brain cells, leading to rapid problems with memory, movement, and thinking.
Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects the nerves controlling movement, causing muscle weakness and loss of mobility, while the person’s mind usually remains intact.
Both diseases are absolutely devastating and can develop extremely fast. Ste, Dave, and their families have been greatly affected.
Here is a summary of what our chosen charities do to help:
The Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) is the main UK charity dedicated to supporting people affected by motor neurone disease. The MNDA works in three key ways: support and care, awareness and campaigning, and research funding.
The Cure CJD Campaign funds research into Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). CJD is a prion disease, meaning it is caused by misfolded proteins (prions) that damage the brain. The campaign supports vital research to better understand CJD and develop treatments.
We will be running the Wigan Half Marathon alongside friends to help spread awareness of Prion disease and Motor Neurone Disease, and to raise money for the charities that support those affected.
Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
