This past week, a nasty (apparently viral) respiratory infection hit our cats Fionn and Cupid. We lost Fionn to it on Thursday. Cupid was doing well until last night, then crashed hard this morning. We're taking him to the vet tomorrow (they're closed today) but have already spent close to $2000 on vet visits and meds within the past week or so. Our funds are nearly depleted and we have no idea what tomorrow's visit or treatments will cost.
Both cats have been treated with antibiotics since this illness struck us 10 days ago. This suggest the problem is viral. Antivirals are wildly expensive right now due to Covid, as humans and animals need the same drugs for treatment. Covid itself is unlikely here; all the humans here are fully vaccinated and apparently clear of the disease. There ARE feline respiratory viruses, though, and this appears to be one of them.
For over a decade, Fionn and Cupid have been the heart of our household. We'd had Fionn for 13 years, and Cupid has been with us for around 10 of them. Especially during the pandemic, they've been our anchors and our sanity. They sleep with us, hang out in our offices with us, and give us hope that the world isn't as terrible as it otherwise appears.
Fionn is gone now. We're trying to save Cupid.
Please help us save our other boy.
Thank you.
