Hi. I am raising money for my daughter, Holly. On Saturday, August 14, Holly was getting ready to leave the house to go to work. In a freak accident, she slipped on some water on the kitchen floor and suffered tremendous and horrible injury to her left leg. She dislocated her knee, and tore many tendons and ligaments. Her LCL, MCL, ACL, PCL, meniscus, and hamstring tendons are all torn. There was nothing left in tact to hold her knee in place, so she had surgery the next evening to attach an external fixator -- a very large metal apparatus that starts on her thigh and runs down below her knee. It is screwed into her bones and keeps her leg in a fixed position. The plan is that this device will be attached for as long as possible to have scar tissue start to grow, but the goal is 8 weeks. The device itself causes pain because it is, like I mentioned, externally and internally attached. Then, after it is removed, Holly will move to a large leg brace that will continue to keep her leg in a fixed position. Further surgery will be required at that point to reconstruct her knee so she will be able to walk again. Holly cannot move her leg, and cannot put any weight on it for months and months to come. She can't drive. The recovery timeline is estimated to be about a year. She cannot work for an undetermined number of weeks/months at this point. Holly cannot work at any of her three jobs. The goal is that at some point she will be able to teach part of her Floral and Plant Biology classes at Metro via Zoom, that she will be able to sit in a wheelchair and design flowers for Bloom Works Floral, and that her photography business, Through Another Eye, will wait for her. As her mom, my heart is broken for her. Can I tell you how much of an understatement that is? Holly is the bravest person I know, and she has the biggest, kindest heart of anyone I have ever met. Her generosity towards others is remarkable. As her mom, I am trying to do what I can do for her and her situation.  Holly can't walk, but she will walk again at some point. At this point she is immobile and requires 24 hour assistance. She is strong, and she is brave. She will prevail. And at this point, she really, really, needs your help. The loss of income and the ongoing medical bills will be devastating. I picked a goal amount for this campaign but it is so difficult to know what expenses will be as Holly navigates through this horrible situation.  I hope she can cover her car payments and buy groceries and pay bills.
