If you’ve visited our shoppe in Roscoe Village — Cubbington’s Cabinet — you may have met our very big, very sweet Bernese Mountain Dog lounging near the front window, ready to soak up all the love you have to offer.

Cubbington isn’t just our shoppe dog — he’s the heart of our business and its namesake. A rescue with a big personality, Cubbington has become a local celebrity since we opened in 2020. He’s been with us every step of the way, helping make Cubbington’s Cabinet a warm, welcoming place for our community.

Cubbington’s Medical Journey
Long-time customers may remember Cubbington fought off a dangerous infection called Blastomycosis several years ago, which resulted in the removal of one of his lung lobes. His recovery back then was nothing short of amazing. So when our big guy who lives for food (and scratches) suddenly lost his appetite — we knew something was wrong.

After several vet visits with no clear answers, things took a sudden and terrifying turn — Cubbington started coughing up blood and went into respiratory failure. We raced him to MedVet where he was quickly admitted to the ICU.

He stayed there for several days in late June, receiving critical care and oxygen support for severe aspiration pneumonia. The first night in particular was rough. We didn't know if he would survive. But in true Cubbington fashion, he pulled through. ❤️

In early July, he was home and slowly recovering — wagging, resting, and even requesting some snacks and scratches again. We were so grateful that he was improving each day.

In mid July, things took another turn for the worse, as noted in updates below leading up to his heart-breaking passing on July 23, 2025.

Many of you — our amazing customers, neighbors, and friends — have reached out with kindness, concern, and love for Cubbington. Some of you suggested creating this GoFundMe to help offset the costs of multiple ICU stays and extensive testing, which exceeded $25,000.

The business paid for these costs, but the financial burden has been significant. If you’d like to contribute to help offset Cubby's medical expenses and help keep our small, independently owned shoppe going, please consider a donation and/or drop a line sharing your favorite memories with Cubby.

Thank you for loving him as much as us.

With gratitude,

The Cubbington’s Cabinet Team
