Eviction Emergency Response for my Mom

Hello friends,

I'm usually reserved on personal matters but a growing need to help my mom has led me to reach out to my community.

I'm trying to gather some funds to help my mom avoid eviction. As some of you may know, she was shot in the leg back in 2020 just a few steps away from her apartment. Since then, she has been dealing with a growing financial burden as she not only deals with the trauma but also the inability to return to work.

Early on after her accident, she was able to receive government assistance due to the pandemic but getting help has now become increasingly difficult. Over the past few months, she has been applying to receive rental assistance and each time receiving rejections.

I understand this is a significant time of struggle for many of us so I understand the weight of this ask. Although her debt is much greater than the goal for this fundraiser, the donations will lessen the financial burden and hopefully increase her chances at getting approved for rental assistance.

I love my mom and wish I could be of greater help to her but with limited resources myself, there’s only so much I can do. The system and life here in NYC hasn’t been the best or most understanding to her. She has been as resourceful and helpful as she can be to my siblings and I since the accident so I hope I can return the favor to her even if with the help of my community.

This fundraiser will help pay a portion of the rent owed to her landlord and hopefully increasing her chances of getting the rental assistance she desperately needs. She will be going to court at the end of the month so this fundraiser will help in preventing her from getting evicted.
