Drones for Inner City Kids
Donation protected
My name is Clint Walker. I am the President of Yautja, a new drone services company. However, most of you know me as the owner of Team 7 Consulting, the Chairman of Technology for 100 Black Men of America, a Member of 100 Black Men of Atlanta, a Member of the Board of Directors for the Atlanta Business League and a Member of the 2014 Class of Leadership Atlanta. I have always had a passion concerning the the digital divide in this country as it relates to inner city kids and technology. While technology firms are trying to assist in closing this gap with programs like "Teach Kids to Code", "Cool Girls", and other programs, we still have a lot of work to do.
Today, I am lauching a new initiative in association with various charitable organizations and the leadership team of my firms, Yautja and Team 7 Consulting called the Drop Zone Drone Academy. This academy will serve to teach inner city kids the skills needed to fly drones for hobby and commercial purposes. We will also teach these kids core responsibility and common values. Kids in inner city Atlanta neighbors, specifically those kids living near BEST Academy (Bankhed area), the "bluff", Simpson Street, and Lakewood will qualify to serve as our target training group. Upon mastering these skills, some of these youth should be able to qualify for placement in careers as drone operators for films crews, agriculture farming companies, oil and gas companies, surveying and mapping inspectors. More importantly, this experience should entice a kid to future their interest in technology and go to college. Once we successfully demonstrate this program in Atlanta, we will seek to partner with other programs and school systems around the country.
We want to purchase 10+ DJI Phatom 3 Drones, course work, uniforms, insurance and cover meals for kids while in classes. Team 7 Consulting and Yautja will contribute to the cost of providing the full program for the kids. The drone manufacturers, meal providers and other partners will provide discounted services to the program. Please help us raise additional funds to train as many kids as possible in this program. The total cost of the program is estimated at $65000 for the 1st year. That will pay for 80 kids (4 class rotations of 20 kids) utilizing the 10 drones over 8 weeks per class. Each class will have 2 kids per drone learning the roles of both the spotter and the flyer.
