I went out one evening for a ride on my motorcycle and was hit by an uninsured, unregistered, unliscensed, 23 year old lady who was drunk and drugged at the time of the incedent. I was left for dead as she and her passenger stepped around me and said "there was nothing they could do here". Then they went and hid in a nearby yard.
Once the medics arrived they where able to find a pulse and bring me to the hospital. Once my wife was able to locate me she immediately rushed down to my bedside. I stayed in the IC unit for a month and once I awoke out of the coma.
I am in recovery still and spent a little over a year in the hospital. For the majority of my life I was a hockey player and even did a three year stint in the Army's infantry during the Persian Gulf war era. I tell you this because
I want you to know that learning to walk is much harder, on me,than basic training and college hockey tryouts combined. It hurts when I fall and I am now a fall risk person.
I was in the second year of starting a medical company with a friend at the time and relied on my VA medical insurance. My motor vehicle insurance was eaten up by a more than 2 million dollar medical expence. I was just beggining to make it happen, with that medical company, for my young family of a wife and two children and in an instant that was swept away.
I now find myself in a lot of pain, with no job, a great amount of debt and a young family. The good news is that I can fall back on school. I'm already enrolled. I have a year to go on my undergrad and would like to continue going.
