CTU Chelsea Families Fund

The COVID-19 closures have affected many families across the city of Chelsea, MA. The Chelsea Teachers Union, AFT Local #1340, is grateful to the City of Chelsea for continuing to pay our critical school workers during this time. Alongside advocacy for rent and mortgage moratoriums and increased state and federal assistance for ALL people, we are working to provide some financial support to the many families who will need it.

In recognition of the crisis, CTU is working to collect donations to disburse to families who are suffering from financial hardship in this time of need. The fund is being run by the Union in coordination with our social workers, community organizations, the city of Chelsea, and others. Throughout the year we're grateful to form close relationships with our students and their families. In this time of physical distance, we want to provide whatever support we can to the families we care about so much.

We plan to provide funds for families to help make ends meet. This includes rent, utilities, and food assistance. We are working closely with our social workers and organizers across the city to identify those in need and provide assistance to them as quickly as possible. Funds will be distributed through VISA gift cards or other gift cards where applicable (for example, Market Basket).
