The Connie Thomas Memorial Fund for Music Education
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Anthony Drimones, and along with my brother Michael, we are reaching out to you during one of the most difficult times in our lives. Our beloved mother, Constance "Connie" Thomas, passed away on July 3rd, 2025, at the age of 66, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of music education.
About Our Mother: A Life Devoted to Music
Our mother was truly extraordinary. Born in the Bronx on September 20, 1958, Connie's lifelong passion for music began when she started playing piano at just eight years old. By 14, she was already teaching others and playing the organ in church—a testament to her natural gift and passion for sharing music with the world. It was clear from the beginning that playing music wasn't just something she did, it was a part of who she was.
Connie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and Elementary Education from Kean University, where she later returned to complete a Master of Arts in Educational Administration. She went on to teach at Kean as an adjunct instructor, sharing her knowledge and passion with future educators.
For over 30 years, she served the Cranford Public School District, specifically at Orange Avenue School, where she taught general music, led choruses, and served as music director and stage crew manager for school musicals and drama productions. Her classrooms were filled with energy, creativity, and encouragement—and her students never forgot the impact she made.
In addition to her time teaching in the school district, she taught piano and voice from her private studio in Cranford and served as the choir director and organist at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield, leading congregational music and coordinating countless weddings with grace and professionalism.
Connie was a true pioneer in music education. She introduced an innovative music technology curriculum to her students, incorporating iPads and GarageBand to help them create their own blues tracks, sound collages, rap verses, and original songs. She found joy in bridging classical training with modern expression, always meeting her students where they were.
Most recently, she and the middle school chorus from Orange Avenue School won a superior rating award in the Six Flags Great Adventure Music Festival. This was something she and her students participated in every year, taking home many awards over time—a testament to her dedication and the excellence she inspired in her students.
Our Mission: The Connie Thomas Memorial Fund for Music Education
In honor of our mother's incredible legacy and her lifelong dedication to music education, we are establishing this memorial fund to support music education in schools—something she so passionately believed in. This fund will provide annual awards for music students, support innovative music education programs, and ensure that future generations have access to the same transformative musical experiences that our mother provided to thousands of students throughout her career.
Our goal is to create a lasting tribute that reflects the values our mother held dear: nurturing talent, supporting education, bridging traditional and modern musical expression, and bringing the joy of music to others. Through this fund, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift future generations of musicians and music educators.
Just as Connie empowered her students through music and kindness, we want this fund to empower others to discover their own musical voices and potential. Whether supporting a young pianist taking their first lessons, helping a student access music technology, or enabling a future music educator to follow in our mother's footsteps, every contribution will carry forward her legacy of musical excellence.
How Your Support Makes a Difference
Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal of ensuring that Connie's impact on music education continues for generations to come. Your donation will directly support aspiring musicians and music educators, providing them with the resources, technology, and opportunities they need to grow and succeed.
Donations from GoFundMe will be contributed to a soon-to-be-created endowment fund by the end of this year, or donated to a similar charity that shares in our mission.
Our mother believed that playing music wasn't just something you did—it was a part of who you were.
Thank You
We are deeply grateful for your support during this difficult time. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us as we work to honor our mother's memory through something she would have been truly proud of.
With heartfelt thanks,
Anthony and Michael Drimones
