Dixie's Surgery

A normally bold and energetic 3-year old German Shepherd, we quickly noticed when something wasn't right late last night and took her to the emergency clinic. We have since found out she has pneumothorax and a ruptured pulmonary bulla caused by a hole in her lung and needs surgery to repair the hole.
After 3 opinions, we have been given an estimate that the surgery to repair the hole will cost $10,000. The cost will cover a CT scan, the surgery itself, chest tubes, and hospitalization for up to 10 days post op where she will be monitored 24/7. Aside from having the surgery, because the hole causes her to be under-oxygenated, her quality of life will deteriorate and there is no alternative long term solution.
Because of our amazing family and friends and their generous donations we were able to raise half the money needed for the surgery. We received a loan from my grandmother and mother, Leigh Roumila, for the remaining portion.
Dixie has our whole hearts and if you have had the honor of meeting her, she has probably stolen yours too.
