Support Danae's Battle with Breast Cancer!

Hi! I’m Olivia, Danae Charlesworth’s oldest daughter. Those who know my mom would describe her as a resilient and dedicated mother, teacher, friend, and advocate. As she puts it, she “always figures it out!”, and while I know that is true, I am reaching out for support on behalf of my parents and younger siblings.

In late summer of 2023, Danae was diagnosed with a type of breast cancer called invasive lobular carcinoma. Initially it was believed to be able to be treated with a lumpectomy and radiation regimen. However, after further exploration during surgery, her team found that 6 of 6 sampled lymph nodes in her armpit were positive for cancer as well, and this changed the treatment plan entirely.

On October 6th, my mom began her first round of chemotherapy, and on October 13th she headed back to work as a middle school language arts teacher for Ralston Public Schools (where she has enthusiastically taught for over 20 years!). While she is strong, our family could use support as she heads back into work. Undergoing chemotherapy and recovering from surgeries is a physical, emotional and mental battle. My biggest hope for creating this fundraiser is that we are able to alleviate some of the financial stress that comes along with battling illness and navigating our complicated and confusing healthcare system. Even with insurance, my parents are having to pay large sums out of pocket for chemo treatments, surgeries, compression garments for recovery, and necessary follow-up care.
