I guess I always knew the day would come, but I knew my mom was one tough cookie. Her selflessness kept her here to ensure me and the twins would be okay.

As some of you know, she has been very sick for the past 2 years. She’s ultimately made the decision to rest. My mom took her last breath at/around 5.40 a.m 7-19-22.

When she went to sleep was surrounded by the people she loved, that loved her. Oddly enough, she waited until us kids were no longer present to take her last breath. She wanted the process to begin at 4.20 p.m as it did. The ventilator was disconnected at 5.02 p.m. and we all sat and watched her chest rise and fall for hours.

Her wishes have always been to be cremated and a piece of her given to each kid (to bring together and make her whole on holidays). I could promise I would make sure everyone got a piece of her. I intend to do just that, while setting aside some ashes for the grandkids if they should want some now or in the future.

Obviously, even if you are poor it still costs money to do this kind of thing. I asked the funeral home if he would be able to accept the money from my monopoly game as payment. He politely declined. I explored all available avenues prior to putting this into the universe. None of us involved, are in the position to carry the costs ourselves. Still, it’s quite the expense at such short notice.

I told her I would come pick her ashes up myself. I plan on doing so when we have the money to pay for her, ironic we have to buy her from people she’s never even met. I don’t quite have the resources to come home and purchase her. I have yet to go through her belongings and be able to give my brothers hugs in person.
