The Connecticut “Criminal” INjustice System is Separating a Mom From Her Kids!
After over a year of being burdened with court dates and continuances, one of our supporters has been sentenced to 30 days in prison by a tyrannical judge on a power trip, leaving her 3 kids without their sole provider and guardian.
She is being charged for violation of probation and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device or IID (an in-vehicle breathalyzer).
Did you know that in CT, not only do you have to pay a recurring fee to have an IID in your vehicle, but you also have to pay for required calibration every 25-30 days, AND for re-calibration every time the vehicle’s battery dies?
Each time her car battery died, she had to pay $75 in addition to the $75 calibration fee every 30 days, as well as $150 every two weeks for the having the IID. To make matters worse, when her car battery died, time was added to how long she was required to keep the IID, so instead of having the IID for 6 months, she had it for 3 YEARS.
After being sucked dry by this parasitic system for 3 years, she was pulled over and found with the IID out of calibration.
Why did she have a IID in the first place? It wasn’t for driving while drunk, it was in fact for having a vehicle that “smelled” like weed. She performed the field sobriety test successfully but was given a DUI anyway.
This family is being punished for the “crime” of being Black and poor. A mom is being sent to jail for a minor traffic violation where there was no accident, and no one was hurt.
Prison should be for killer cops, not poor moms.
Being in prison will disrupt her family emotionally AND financially because she is the sole provider. Help this hardworking mom who is being targeted by this fucked up system!
