Congregation Shaarey Zedek needs a new playground!
Now that we are back to in-person learning and religious services, our young and growing synagogue community realizes that we need a new playground. Our current playground is outdated and inaccessible to all congregants.
Our goal is to build a new, state-of-the-art, accessible playground where people of all ages and abilities are able to play together. This new play area will be ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant. It will be located next to the Saulson Pavillion on the main level of the synagogue.
The new playground will include:
- Baby Swings
- Standard Swings
- Playscape geared for K-6
- 4 Park Benches for honor/memorial
- Tic-Tac-Toe Board
- Poured-in-place ground cover with concrete border, for safety and lessened maintenance
- Limestone path for access from Saulson Pavillion
This new playground will be:
- Accessible
- Clean & Durable
- An investment that will last at least 30+ years
- Opportunities for play on Shabbat and holidays for children of all ages.
This playground is dedicated to Ann Zuckman (z’l), who was a special education teacher in the Metro Detroit area. Here is a little bit about Ann, written by her daughter, Sara Rothenberg:
'She absolutely loved children and teaching them. Later in her life, when she could no longer be a lead teacher, she became a classroom aide, because she craved their resilience, energy, positivity, and zest for life, much of how she lived her own life. Upon her passing in January 2008, our family established the Ann Zuckman Special Needs Fund at Congregation Shaarey Zedek.
When it became clear to our family that the Congregation needed a new playground. We could not think of a better way to honor her memory.
In the photos below you will see the renderings for the new playground, which will be placed on the main level for accessibility for all, that will want to watch AND play. The new playground will be completely ADA compliant, as that’s what Ann would have wanted. Her legacy will live on through these children.
Please consider donating to make this dream a reality.'
