In 1978, our mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 48. My sisters and I were still teenagers when she lost the battle. It was difficult for all of us growing up without a mother. Little did we know that while her battle was over, ours had yet to start.
Our oldest sister, Mardie, was diagnosed with cancer in the Philippines in 2008. We lost her that same year; she was only 45. She left behind 4 kids and her husband.
I had my genetic testing done and I tested positive for the BRCA gene mutation. My doctor had told me not to worry about it. I soon learned that having the BRCA genetic mutation increases a woman's risk of breast cancer up to 87% and the risk of Ovarian Cancer to up to 60%. Tomorrow will be exactly 4 weeks since I had my preventative double mastectomy.
Then in November 2015, my younger sister Belle tested positive for breast cancer. She had a her breast surgery and has already received 10 out of 12 chemotherapy treatments.
But this page is not for me . This GoFundMe is about helping our youngest sister, Grace, who just tested BRCA mutation positive and a suspicious malignant mass was found in her right breast two weeks ago.
However, she lives in the Philippines, where medical coverage is not as readily available. The money collected will go directly to her medical expenses. I want to help her be around for her children, since our mother was unable to do the same for us. I am coming to you for prayers and financial support. Even if you can’t chip in, I would be eternally grateful if you could share this page with your friends and family. All it takes is a click of a button.
Thank you for giving us hope and God bless you.
