CSULB August 2019 Trimester Pinning

Donation protected
The CSULB Trimester BSN class of August 2019 is fundraising  for our pinning ceremony! We greatly appreciate any and all donations, positive thoughts, and best wishes for our journey toward becoming full-fledged nurses.

The pinning ceremony is a long-standing tradition dating back to the Crusades of the 12th Century. Fast forward to the 1860s, when Florence Nightingale was honored with the Red Cross of St. George for her selfless efforts to injured men during the Crimean War. Because she believed in acknowledging a job well done, she presented a medal of excellence to her hardest working nursing graduates. However, by 1916 it became standard in the U.S. to no longer award only a few nurses with a medal of excellence, but instead all nursing graduates with a pin during a special ceremony. The pin was provided by the hospital school of nursing to the students to identify them as nurses and act as proof of their education.

A nursing pinning ceremony isn’t just a tradition—it’s an important symbol of nursing students’ hard work and dedication. It’s a time for students to come together and celebrate with their classmates and loved ones. Most importantly, this pivotal moment represents their transition from student to full-fledged nurse.
